KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sets were tightly-contested up and down Keystone Courts Wednesday afternoon.
Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret (Post)) led the Kutztown University men's tennis team with a singles and doubles victory, but the Golden Bears dropped a 6-3 team decision to Saint Thomas Aquinas in non-conference action.
Munoz opened the day with a narrow 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles with partner
Joan Oliver Perez (Andratx, Spain/IES Baltasar Porcel). He followed at the second flight of singles and after dropping the first set 6-2, rallied 6-4 and 10-5 to win the match in tiebreaker.
Freshman
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) also used a come-from–behind victory to win at No. 6 singles. After winning the first set, 6-4, Carl found himself down 4-1 in the second and needing a run. He didn't drop a game from there on to win 6-4, 6-4 and move to 2-0 on the year in singles.
Kutztown ends its fall schedule this weekend, Oct. 7-9, at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Championships in Bloomsburg.
