KUTZTOWN, Pa – The Kutztown University women's swimming team will honor its lone senior,
Sam Scialpi (West Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area), on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day as it takes on Millersville University and LIU Post on Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. in a tri-meet at Keystone Pool.
Scialpi is a four-year member of the KU women's swimming team and was a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifier in 2015 in the 100-back, while also competing in the 50-free and 200-back. At the championships, she finished 37th in 200-back in a career-best time of 2:18.94, 41st in the 100-back and 67th in the 50-free.
Scialpi has career-best times of 26.32 seconds in the 50-free, 58.68 seconds in the 100-free, 29.41 seconds in the 50-back and 1:02.81 in the 100-back. This season, Scialpi placed second in the 50- and 100-back in a KU win over Juniata and was third in the 200-free relay in a tri-meet against East Stroudsburg and Misericordia.
As a team, Kutztown has a 3-3 overall record, including a current two-meet win streak. It defeated Juniata, 151-100, on Nov. 14, and took down Lock Haven, 162-100, in its last meet on Jan. 16.
Sophomores
Madi Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern),
Kara Jones (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan), and
Bridget Perdoch (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), along with freshmen
Claire Frank (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus),
Katerina Parowski (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) and
Linnea Pierson (Newton, N.J./Newton) have all contributed to KU's success this season with multiple career-best performances and PSAC-qualifying marks.
Bleiler, a 2015 PSAC qualifier in both the 100- and 200-back, recorded a PSAC-qualifying mark of 2:13.39 in the 200-back at the F&M Invitational. She also qualified for PSACs in the 100-back with a time of 1:00.45.
Jones set several career-highs at the F&M Invitational, including PSAC-qualifying marks of 2:12.81 in the 200-fly (fifth all-time) and 1:00.20 in the 100-fly (sixth all-time). She also had a PSAC mark of 5:19.89 in the 500-free.
Perdoch recorded a PSAC-qualifying and career-best time of 2:31.33 in the 200-breast at the F&M Invitational, good for fifth all-time in KU history. She also qualified for PSACs in the 100-breast with a time of 1:10.34.
One of KU's top swimmers this season, Frank has qualified for the PSAC Championships in four events. She posted times of 23.67 in the 50-free, 55.67 in the 100-free, 2:18.58 in the 200-IM and 4:49.40 in the 400-IM.
Parowski has qualified for PSACs in the 50-free, 200-free and 500-free. She posted times of 25.16 in the 50-, 1:59.21 in the 100- and 5:19.19 in the 500-. Pierson had a PSAC mark of 2:36.14 in the 200-breast.
The Golden Bears will compete at the East Stroudsburg Invitational on Feb. 6 for their last regular-season competition before gearing up for the PSAC Championships beginning Feb. 18 in York, Pa.
