Team Results | Complete Results | Photo Gallery KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's swimming team hosted East Stroudsburg University and Misericordia University for a season-opening tri-meet on homecoming on Saturday. KU earned a 143-105 team victory over Misericordia and dropped a 173-87 decision to ESU at Keystone Pool.
Three Golden Bears posted Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-qualifying marks in the team's season-opener, all of whom are underclassman. Sophomore
Madi Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) finished second in the 100-back in a mark of 1:02.09, fellow sophomore
Kara Jones (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) finished second in the 200-fly in 2:20.63, and freshman
Claire Frank (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) won the 50-free in a PSAC-time of 25.69 seconds.
Frank impressed in her collegiate debut. She won the 50- and 200-free and finished third in the 200-IM. Bleiler turned in her second runner-up finish of the day in the 200-back with her mark of 2:18.91, as did Jones in the 100-fly in 1:03.72.
Junior duo
Katherine Triggs (York, Pa./York Suburban) and
Aimee Watkins (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) finished second and third in the 1000-free. It also competed in the 500-free, with Triggs earning a second-place swim followed by Watkins in fourth.
Freshman
Katerina Parowski (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) touched second in the 200-free in 2:04.06.
In the final event of the night, the 200-free relay, the quartet of
Alexis Cable (Thomasville, Pa./Spring Grove (Mansfield)), Bleiler,
Sam Scialpi (West Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) and Parowski turned in a third-place effort in 1:46.58.
With the season now underway, the Golden Bears return to action in two weeks for a tri-meet at California University with the Vulcans and the Warriors of ESU. Action gets underway at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6 and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
