KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Five singles wins and two doubles victories lifted the Kutztown University men's tennis team to a 7-2 victory over Division I La Salle University on Tuesday afternoon in the team's home-opener at the Keystone Courts.
 
Starting with doubles action, Joan Oliver Perez (Andratx, Spain/IES Baltasar Porcel) and Indi Reverte (Zaragoza, Spain/Santa Maria del Pilar) led with an 8-6 win at the top flight. The third doubles pairing involving Kutztown's Varun Desai (Mumbai, India/K.C. College) and Ken Beebe (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett) handed the Golden Bears their second doubles win of the match, coming at the widest margin of victory at 8-2.
 
Desai now has a team-leading nine combined wins this season, including 5-1 in singles play, for 91 in his career.
 
All four doubles victors won both of their matches against the Explorers. At the top flight, Desai won 6-3, 6-0 and was followed by Maguire's 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
 
Oliver Perez won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Reverte earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at the fourth flight, and Filip Lagerqvist (Sundsvall, Sweden/Skvaderns Gymnasieskola) rounded out singles action with a 6-3, 6-1 win for Kutztown.
 
The Golden Bears remain home and return to action on Friday, Oct. 10 against Roberts Wesleyan beginning at 10 a.m.
