KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Another match for the Kutztown University men's tennis team fittingly went down to the wire, but visiting Chestnut Hill came out on top with a 4-3 victory Thursday at the Keystone Courts in the PSAC and season finale for the Golden Bears.
The Griffins (6-7, 2-3 PSAC) were able to secure the doubles point with wins at No. 3 and No. 2 before
Dang Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam/) and
Henrique Rocha (Jaticua, Brazil/Escola SEB Maceio) picked up a 7-5 win --their seventh of the season-- over Noah Cutting and Siddharth Malik in the top flight match.
Kutztown (6-11, 1-5 PSAC) kept pace with Chestnut Hill in singles but could never flip the team score in its favor.
Cutting earned a straight set win at No. 1 to make it 2-0 for the visitors, but
Patrick Young (Belfast, Northern Ireland/) responded with a win over Alessio Lefebvre, who retired at No. 3. Young was up a set after taking the first 6-3 and led in the second, 4-3, before the retirement.
A 6-3, 6-4 triumph from senior
Emmitt Robinson (Ingersoll, Ontario/Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute) over Augustin Daubannay at No. 5 pulled KU within 3-2.
Chestnut Hill grabbed the clinching point at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-2 win from Enzo Puppi.
Like Robinson, fellow senior
Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana) won his final match in Maroon and Gold with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Filippo Relecom at No. 4.
