MATCH 1: Kutztown 7, Cheyney 0 (HTML Box Score) MATCH 2: Kutztown 7, Cheyney 0 (HTML Box Score)Photo Gallery KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's tennis team took down Cheyney University with matching 7-0 scores on Saturday afternoon to mark the start of the 2014 fall season for the Golden Bears.
Erika Diffendall (Mountville, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) played at No. 1 singles for Kutztown and defeated Cheyney's Taylor Billington 8-0 in match one and 8-1 in match two.
Sophomores
Vicki Norman (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) and
Kady Wvagon (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) did not allow a point in their two matches.
Danielle Patterson (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) also won both of her matches (8-1, 4-0 injury), as
Gabriella Wertheim (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) rounded out Kutztown's singles competitors with a 8-0 win in match one.
Diffendall teamed with Patterson in the first match (8-2) and Wertheim in the second match (8-2) as Kutztown's top flight of doubles. Wvagon and Norman teamed for a 8-1 win in the first match as Patterson and Norman earned a win in the second flight of match two.
The Golden Bears return to action next weekend, Oct. 3-4, for three matches against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division opponents. KU will travel to Clarion University to face the Golden Eagles along with Indiana University (PA) and Seton Hill.
