Women’s Soccer Forces Overtime Before Falling to Shippensburg on the Road

Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Playing to a 0-0 draw after the first 90 minutes to force overtime, the Kutztown University women's soccer team surrendered a quick goal to Shippensburg University to end the game 1-0 in favor of the home team in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon from David See Field.

Alaina Curry (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) forced the pressure early in the overtime period, but the Raiders (1-1-1, 1-1-1 PSAC) quickly countered. Four minutes into extra time, Shippensburg substitute Jenny Litz lofted a shot from 18 yards out on the left side that just beat the reach of KU goalie Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood).

Kutztown (2-2, 2-2 PSAC) had plenty of quality scoring opportunities, especially in the first half, but was unable to find the back of the net.

Both offenses were firing in the second half, with each team recording an astounding nine shots a piece.

Curry led all players on the pitch with four shots, but failed to hit the net. Taylor Burt (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) fired off three shots with one on goal, and Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose) hit two with one on goal.

Freshman Nora Fazzi (Bear Creek, Pa./James M. Coughlin) converted her first collegiate shot into an attempt on goal, while fellow rookie Messner finished with three saves.

The Raiders finished with a slight advantage in both shots (14-12) and corner kicks (7-3).

The Golden Bears continue their three-game road stretch with a non-conference matchup against Alderson Broaddus on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. in West Virginia.
