KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Finally blessed with a sunny day, the Kutztown University men's and women's tennis teams hit the Keystone Courts Wednesday afternoon for Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchups against West Chester University. The men's team remained undefeated in the conference with a 6-3 triumph, while the women were defeated 7-2.

The KU men (11-2, 5-0 PSAC) stand unblemished at the top of the conference as the only undefeated team left. The KU women (8-6, 3-2 PSAC E) sit in third place in the East Division with one conference match left. The women's match against East Stroudsburg University scheduled for this Friday has now been moved up to tomorrow, Thursday, April 10 at 4 p.m. with the victor moving onto playoffs.

In men's doubles competition, the duos of Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley) and Varun Desai (Mumbai, India/K.C. College) at No. 1 and Matthew Maguire and Rich Lichtenwalner (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) at No. 2 continue to click. Amin and Desai picked up their 13th doubles victory together this season with an 8-5 win, while Maguire and Lichtenwalner dominated 8-1 to win their fourth in the last five.

The Golden Bears swept the top four matches in singles competition to secure the match. Amin, Desai, and Maguire were victorious at the top three flights with straight-set wins. Patricio Hernandez (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Vista Hermosa) grabbed the final KU point at No. 4 singles, battling out to a 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 win.

For the women, Hannah Pipkin (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) was the only player in Maroon and Gold to pick up two wins on the day. Pipkin and season-long doubles partner Tori Zander (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) pulled out an 8-6 victory in the No. 1 doubles match to record their eighth this season. Pipkin remained at the top flight in singles play, grinding out a 6-7, 7-5, 10-5 triumph to make 13 wins on the season.

The women will now wrap up PSAC play tomorrow, Thursday, April 10 against East Stroudsburg on Keystone Courts at 4 p.m. The men's team has concluded the conference season until the PSAC semifinals on April 17, but will get in some non-conference matches this Saturday, April 12 at Bloomsburg.
