Golden Bear Men’s Tennis Sweeps Shepherd

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team took all nine matches in a non-conference sweep over visiting Shepherd University on Sunday afternoon from Keystone Courts.
 
Kutztown (12-4) started off with grabbing all three doubles victories against Shepherd (11-9). Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley) and Varun Desai (Mumbai, India/K.C. College) won the top flight 8-6, Ben Nace (Spring Grove, Pa./Delone Catholic) and Rich Lichtenwalner (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) battled for a 9-7 victory at No. 2, and Matthew Maguire and Ken Beebe (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett) won 8-2 at No. 3.
 
Amin (6-3, 6-1) and Lichtenwalner (6-2, 6-4) at one and six singles, respectively, were the only Golden Bears to win in straight sets. Maguire took the No. 3 match 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, while Nace triumphed at 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 5. Patricio Hernandez (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Vista Hermosa) stepped in at No. 4 singles, winning in a third-set super-breaker (5-7, 7-6, 10-3).
 
After claiming the top seed in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), Kutztown will take on No. 4 West Chester University in the conference semifinals this Thursday, April 17 at 12 p.m. West Chester will host both semifinal matches.
