CONWAY, S.C. – Three members of the Kutztown University women's track and field team opened their outdoor season with a conference-qualifying mark on Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina University.
 
In a meet that included many Division I programs, the Golden Bears were well-represented in numerous events. In the field, junior Nicole Wildermuth (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) finished 20th in the discus in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-qualifying mark of 121-03. It was also a career-best mark to lead a quartet of Golden Bears in the event.
 
Freshman Carli Thurber (Califon, NJ/West Morris Central) also posted a conference mark in the field. In the shot put, she tossed a distance of 37-2.50 to safely qualify for PSAC's in her first outdoor meet of the year.
 
Fellow freshman Nicole Boldosser (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff) set a PSAC-qualifying time in the 400 with her 20th place finish in 58.21. It ranks her seventh all-time in school history. She also contributed as the final leg of KU's 'B' squad of the 4x100 relay. The quartet of Boldosser, Caleigh Coates (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin), Allie VanZant (Media, PA/Penncrest) and Bria Evans (Philadelphia, PA/G.W. Carver of E&S) finished 16th overall in 49.57 as the top team of KU's pair in the event.
 
Kutztown's distance runners turned in impressive performances that had them ranked in the top half of the field. In the mile, senior Jenn Cleary (Chesapeake City, MD/Bohemia Manor) finished ninth in a career-best time of 5:08.04. She was joined in the event by Frances McNally (Drexel Hill, Pa./Springfield), who finished 17th in 5:13.81, and Carolyn Fergus (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), who crossed the line in 5:30.85.
 
In the 3000, Katie Scharrenbroich (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) and Elizabeth McLaughlin (Maple Glen, PA/Upper Dublin) had career-best performances. Scharrenbroich led the duo at 11:19.93 for 22nd overall, followed by McLaughlin in 24th at 11:25.92.
 
The 4x400 team finished 10th overall in 4:00.36 to round out Kutztown's top finishers on Saturday.
 
Kutztown returns to action next weekend, when the team travels to the Richmond Invite on March 28-29.
