MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Senior thrower
April Doyle (Greenfield Twp., PA/Lakeland) became the first woman in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) history to win eight individual titles as she won the shot put competition on Friday afternoon to highlight the Kutztown University women's track and field team's record-breaking day at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championships.
Â
The Golden Bears had three school-records broken and four conference champions crowned on Friday. With all the great performances, Kutztown leads all programs with 67 points after two days. It will have to hold off Slippery Rock and Shippensburg on Saturday's final day of competition in hopes of winning its fourth title in school history and first since 2005.
Â
Doyle earned her eighth title (four indoor, four outdoor) of her career, a mark that has never been done before by a female in PSAC history. Not only did she win the shot put, she set the stadium-record for her mark of 45-5 (13.84m). She broke her previous stadium record she set last season.
Â
Kutztown's 4x100 team set the school-record with its mark of 47.88 seconds. The quartet of
Katie Catania (Audubon, PA/Methacton),
Mikaila White (West Chester, Pa./Spring-Ford),
Evan Dangerfield (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast), and
Kimberly Richardson (Morton, Pa./Springfield) qualified for Saturday's finals with the sixth-fastest time on Friday.
Â
Rachel Eshleman (Lancaster, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) broke her own school-record in the high jump which she set earlier this season. In an NCAA Provisional mark, Eshleman cleared 5-8 (1.73m) to finish first overall for her first PSAC Championship in her third year in the Maroon and Gold.
Â
Emma Sullivan (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) broke the school-record in the finals of the pole vault as she earned All-PSAC honors by finishing third overall. She vaulted an NCAA Provisional mark of 12-01.25 (3.69m) to set the record by more than two inches.
Â
Catania won what could be the first of many PSAC Championships of her young career. Just a freshman, Catania already owns the school-record in the event but leapt a mark of 19-0 (5.79m) for first overall and an NCAA provisional mark. Catania persevered on her final jump as she improved from fourth to first overall.
Â
Junior
Rosealine Farrell (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) won her first PSAC Championship with a stadium-record toss in the hammer throw. Her mark of 180-03 (54.93m) was an NCAA provisional mark and moved her up to second all-time in Kutztown history. Doyle followed Farrell in the event by finishing second overall in an NCAA provisional mark of 171-00 (52.15m).
Â
In the 100m dash, Kutztown had three NCAA provisional times led by Richardson's time of 12.43 seconds. It was a career-best for Richardson and moves her up to third all-time in Kutztown history. Catania (12.76) and Allison Van Zant (12.79) also had provisional cuts.
Â
Van Zant had a season-best time in the 200 at 26.06 seconds, and Dangerfield (58.60) and
Iris Burch (Allentown, PA/Dieruff) (58.83) turned in career-best marks in the 400.
Â
Maria Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) and
Stephanie Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) both qualified for the finals of the 800 on Saturday. Also qualifying on the track in the 100m hurdles was White, who improved on her career-best mark by .02 seconds at 14.94 to move her up to fifth on the Top 10 list. Richardson also had a career-best mark in the event and moved up to eighth in school history at 15.11 seconds.
Â
In the pole vault behind Sullivan,
Rachel Schaefer (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) finished seventh overall in a career-best vault of 11-05.25 (3.49m) to rate fifth in Kutztown history. In the hammer throw behind Farrell and Doyle,
Nicole Wildermuth (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) moved up to eighth all-time and finished eighth overall with her mark of 152-04 (46.44m).
Â
Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) led the Golden Bears in the heptathlon for her season-best score of 4234. Also competing in the heptathlon was
Christina Descano (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) (3547).
