KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team returned from its spring break trip to host a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match against Millersville University Friday afternoon at the Keystone Tennis Courts. The Golden Bears won all nine matches to defeat the Marauders 9-0 and improve to 5-4 on the season.
In doubles,
Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley) and Matthew Maguire earned their sixth win on the season against MU's Sambrick/Mucci 8-5.
Varun Desai (Mumbai, India/K.C. College) and
Parth Girme (Pune, India/B.M.C.C.) grabbed their third victory as a pair, defeating MU's Mertz/Ryan 8-6.
Ben Nace (Spring Grove, Pa./Delone Catholic) and Kenny Beebe took their second consecutive win as a pair, beating MU's Jadus/Tran 8-3.
Also victorious in singles play, Amin defeated Sambrick 7-5, 6-4, and Desai defeated Mertz 6-0, 6-1, while Nace won both matches against Mucci 6-3, 6-3.
Maguire went to three sets against Ryan winning the first set 6-2, but falling in the second 2-6. Ryan dropped the decision in the third set and Maguire took the victory 6-1.
Freshmen
Patricio Hernandez and
Rich Lichtenwalner (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) each had victories in singles play as well. Hernandez defeated MU's Kevin Tran 6-0, 6-2, while Lichtenwalner beat MU's Tony Jadus 6-0, 6-0.
The Marauders (2-8) fell to KU in their seven game losing streak.
The Golden Bears return to action tomorrow Saturday, March 30 when they travel to West Chester for a 1 p.m. start.
