Women's Soccer Wins Seventh Straight with Third Consecutive Shutout

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to seven with its third consecutive shutout victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Mansfield University 1-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Karl Van Norman Field.
 
The Golden Bears (8-3 overall, 8-3 PSAC) controlled the offensive advantage throughout the majority of play over the Mountaineers (4-7-1, 3-7-1) to finish with 23 total shots, nine of which were on goal, to MU's five.
 
30 minutes into the first half of action, junior Rubi Mink (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) found freshman defender Katie Miller (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) in the goal box off a corner kick, who went on to score the sole goal for the Golden Bears. The second half remained scoreless.  
 
Freshman Alaina Curry (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) led the offensive attack with five shots, followed by junior Sam Costello (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and sophomore Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose) with three each.
 
KU goalkeeper Alina Rakiewicz (Denver, PA/Cocalico) recorded three saves, while MU goalkeeper Alana Krieger finished with eight.
 
The Golden Bears return to action Wednesday, Oct. 16, when they travel to Slippery Rock University for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
