Kutztown Shuts Out Shippensburg for a 2-0 Victory

Box Score

KUTZTOWN, Pa. The Golden Bears opened the game against Shippensburg on Wednesday afternoon with persistent shots on goal from all angles and went on to a 2-0 win in the team's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener.

In the 27th minute, an assist from freshman Taylor Burt (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) enabled Crystal Zerbe (Myerstown, PA/Tulpehocken) to score the first goal of the match.

The second half began with the KU's enthusiasm intensifying. The increasing number of fouls made by the Raiders didn't stop junior Janine Valerio (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) finding the back of the net in the 64th minute.

The Golden Bear's defense held strong and caught the Raiders offside twice allowing only two shots by Shippensburg, both of which were saved by goal keeper Casey Behrendt (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra).

Zerbe and Sam Costello (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) tied for the game high of six shots each, followed by Valerio with 4 shots.

KU ended the game with an ultimate shot tally of 27, with 17 shots on goal.

The Golden Bears return to action on their home field, Saturday, September 8, for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff against LIU Post.
