Box Score MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Kutztown University's women's soccer team found their second wind after a goalless first half, defeating Mansfield 3-1 on Tuesday evening.
Despite opening the game with an immediate impact, tallying 5 shots and 4 corner kicks, Mansfield's goalkeeper Alexis Wilhelm blocked 2 shots on goal in the first half.
In the first two minutes of the second half,
Taylor Higgins (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) utilized an assist from Samantha Busillo, beating Wilhelm to score from five yards out.
Finally gaining the offensive advantage in the 71st minute, an assist by Mansfield's Lauren Boess gave flight to Erika Moyer, beating KU goalkeeper
Alina Rakiewicz (Denver, PA/Cocalico) by breakaway to score the first and only goal for the Mountaineers.
In response to the 1-1 tie on the scoreboard, the Golden Bear's intensified determination prevailed, as they scored again in the 79th minute. Shooting from 10 yards out,
Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose) found the back of the net for the second goal of the game for KU.
Sam Costello (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) was unfazed by the seconds counting down on the clock, making the most of every moment as she headed the ball, lofted in front of the goal from a corner kick by
BrieAnn Shipkowski (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central), scoring the third and final goal of the game with only 44 seconds left in the game.
The Golden Bears held the shot advantage of 17 to the Mountaineers' six. Costello led KU with five shots, followed by Higgins and Shipkowski with three each.
