KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior forward
Corinne Morgan (Port Republic, N.J./Cedar Creek) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season midway through the first half and No. 22 Kutztown women's soccer handed No. 4 West Chester its first loss of the season Wednesday evening, defeating the Golden Rams, 1-0, in a PSAC East matchup at Keystone Field.
The Golden Bears responded well after their first setback of the season this past Saturday and improved to 7-1-1 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC East.
The two nationally ranked teams battled back and forth throughout the opening half with both defenses limiting scoring opportunities early.
Kutztown broke through in the 29th minute when Morgan found the back of the net with a low shot to the right side of the goal with an assist from
Maura Day (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington) giving the Golden Bears a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The Golden Bears came out of halftime continuing to apply pressure, recording a shot two minutes into the second half. West Chester (5-1-1, 4-1-1) pushed for the equalizer earning seven corners and recording four shots, including three on goal.
Despite the Golden Rams' offensive pressure Kutztown's defense remained composed and kept West Chester off the scoreboard. Goalkeeper
Morgan O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) made a season-high five saves on the night to preserve her fifth shutout of the season preserving the 1-0 victory.
The victory marked Kutztown's first win over West Chester since the 2024 season snapping a two-game losing streak.
The Golden Bears will have the weekend off before facing Millersville at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Keystone Field.
