Kutztown Shuts Out Bloomsburg, 2-0

Box Score

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University's women's soccer team continued to shoot from all angles in a 2-0 win against Bloomsburg on Wednesday evening, eventually scoring from 40 yards back by defender BrieAnn Shipkowski (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central).

A shot in the fourth minute by Bloomsburg's Lauren Stedman got the game rolling, as the Golden Bears immediately took back the offensive advantage with Taylor Higgins (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) making a wide shot in the fifth minute.

At the end of the seventh minute, Sam Costello (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) put the ball in the back of the net for the first goal of the game for KU.

The Huskies didn't know what was to come, when Shipkowski left her defensive post to make a corner kick for KU.  In the 11th minute, Shipkowski utilized an assist from Taylor Burt (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) to score with a long shot from 40 yards out, bouncing the ball over Bloomsburg's goal keeper's head, for the second goal of the game for KU.

The shots continued to come from all angles by the Golden Bears, and although the Huskies managed to catch KU offside twice, Kutztown still held the offensive advantage.

The second half of the game opened with Kutztown at a comfortable 2 point advantage, and Bloomsburg managed only one shot in the 86th minute, which was the second shot of the game saved by KU goal keeper Casey Behrendt (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra).

Kutztown ended the game with a total of 22 shots, with Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose), Costello, and Higgins leading KU with three shots each.

The Golden Bears continue PSAC play when they travel to East Stroudsburg University, Saturday, September 22, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
