HILTON HEAD, S.C. – A super tiebreaker win by
Arjun Arora (New Dehli, India/G.D. Goenka Public School) (New Delhi, India/G.D. Goenka Public School), one of three singles matches to go to a super tiebreaker in the match, gave Kutztown the decisive fifth point for a 5-4 win over Dickinson.
Arora and David London split the first two sets with Arora rebounding from a 4-6 first set to win 7-5 in the second. In the super tiebreaker, he doubled up London 10-5 for the win at sixth singles to seal victory for the Golden Bears (1-1).
KU's
Varun Desai (Mumbai, India/K.C. College) (Bombay, India/K.C. College) won at third singles in a super tiebreaker against Franco Mena. Like Arora, he bounced back after the first set to win 3-6, 6-1, 10-6.
The Red Devils' (0-2) Jon Brittin ousted
Ben Nace (Spring Grove, Pa./Delone Catholic) (Spring Grove, Pa./Delone Catholic) at fifth singles in the third super tiebreaker of the morning, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-7.
The duo of
Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley) (Allentown, Pa./Lake Brantley) and
Kenny Beebe (Landenburg, Pa./Kennett) picked up the Golden Bears' only doubles win of the day, 8-2 at second doubles over Ari Blask and Hunter Dewing-Hommes.
Amin notched his second win of the match at first singles, dispatching Will Golinkin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Matthew Maguire (Centurion, South Africa/Cornwall Hill) had Kutztown's other win, besting Dixon Blue at second singles 6-1, 6-0.
The Golden Bears will look to make it two in a row against Missouri Valley College on Tuesday, March 13 at 2 p.m.
