RESULTS
KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University women's swimming team defeated Millersville University, 120-74 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) dual meet at Keystone Pool, earlier Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (4-2 overall, 3-2 PSAC) handed the Marauders (3-1, 1-1 PSAC) its first dual meet loss of the season as KU dominated and won several events during the meet.
The 400-yard medley relay team opened the meet with a win as they finished with a time of 4:09.79.
Senior
Lauren Malloy (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) finished the day with two first place finishes. Malloy won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of five minutes, 27 seconds. Malloy also won the 200-yard free (2:00.84). Senior
Stephanie Kearns (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) followed in second (2:03.28)
"It's nice to see everyone swim well at the end of the season," Malloy said. "We've been training so hard and I believe it's paying off. My goal is for everyone to do well but I want to get my lifetime best times when I go to PSACs. That'd be a great way to end my career."
Senior
Jess Mape (Camp Hill, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) won the 200-yard individual medley, coming in at 2:13.71. Mape was also first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.17).
Sophomore
Elizabeth Metz (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor) won the 1000-yard free with a time of 10:58.63. Senior
Monica Fisher (Secane, Pa./Upper Darby) finished in third (11:44.05). Metz was also second in the 500-yard free (5:29.65).
Senior
Jordan Shapiro (Yardville, N.J./Princeton) finished the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2.17.06 to win the event. Shapiro was second in the 50-yard free (25.78) and freshman
Caitlin Davies (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) was third (25.81).
Junior
Lauren Galetto (Vineland, N.J./Sacred Heart) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.66). Malloy finished in second (2:19.75) and freshman
Jessica Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) was third (2:24.59).
Davies was first in the 100-yard free, coming in with a time of 56.35. Kearns followed in second (58.11).
Sophomore
Natalie Carr (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) had two third place finishes for the Golden Bears. Carr was third in the 200-yard breast (2:42.25) and the 200-yard IM (2:30.06.)
The 400-yard free relay team closed the meet by winning with a time of 3: 54.89.
"The distance swimmers did really well," Kutztown University head coach
Tim Flannery said. "Overall I'm pleased. We have a few things to work on before next week's meet but I'm confident in us."
The Golden Bears return back to action when it hosts C.W. Post for a PSAC dual meet on Friday, Jan. 20. The meet is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. The meet which is KU's last home event will serve as Senior Day.
