Golden Bears finish KU Classic in style with 3-1 win over C.W. Post

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 3, 2011)-The Kutztown University women's volleyball team concluded the KU Classic in style by defeating Long Island University C.W. Post, 3-1 Saturday evening at Keystone Arena. (BOXSCORE)

The Golden Bears (5-0 overall) defeated C.W. Post (1-2 overall) 25-21, 25-12, and 25-15. The Pioneers won the first game 25-23. Kutztown won all four games in the KU Classic. On Friday, Kutztown defeated College of Saint Rose, 3-2 and University of the Sciences 3-0. KU seized its third victory of the tournament in a 3-2 win over Stonehill College earlier Saturday morning.

Erin Kissling (York, PA/Central York) led Kutztown in kills with 12, followed by Cali Snell (York, PA/York Suburban) who finished with 11. Cait Hess (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) recorded nine kills.. Liz DiValerio (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) saw some time against C.W. post and recorded seven kills. DiValerio was a key factor in KU's win as she made some big plays to help KU rally and get points.

“I am very pleased with Liz,” Kutztown University head coach John Gump said. “She came off the bench and played very well.”

Katie Lutz (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle Antrim) had a team-high seven blocks, while Hess and Snell combined for nine.

“The blockers did a nice job of making adjustments to facing a quicker offense,” Gump said. “Our serve receive was much improved and that allowed us to do more things on offense.”

Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington) led KU with 16 assists and Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) followed with 14. The Golden Bears placed five players in double-digits in digs. Wright led Kutztown with 23 digs, while Kissling (17), Lindsey Smith (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) (13), DValerio (11) and Gomber (11) each contributed to KU's defense.

The Golden Bears are set to host Philadelphia University, Wednesday, Sept. 7 beginning at 7 p.m. at Keystone Arena.
