KU falls to IUP 4-3 in overtime

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 17, 2011)—The Kutztown University women's field hockey team had its first defeat of the season to Pennsylvania Athletic State Conference (PSAC) mate Indiana University Saturday afternoon. KU fell to IUP 4-3 in overtime. (BOXSCORE)

The Golden Bears (6-1 overall, 1-1 PSAC) and The Crimson Hawks (5-1 overall, 2-0 PSAC) played any evenly matched contest that came down to the wire. IUP's Jillian Duld scored the game winning goal five minutes into overtime to push Indiana over the top. Duld's goal was assisted by Alicia Straining.

IUP tied the game 3-3 in the second half when Hannah Zeiber scored off of an Erin Shirk assist.

Emily Labowitz (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Lower Merion) gave Kutztown the advantage just before entering halftime.  Labowitz scored off Jenna Gregory (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg)'s assist with four minutes remaining in the first half, giving KU the 3-2 lead.

Jenna Gregory (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and Jamie Koenig (Springtown, PA/Palisades) each scored for the Golden Bears. Gregory opened up the game with a goal just 13 minutes into the game. Koenig scored late in the first half giving KU the 2-1 lead after IUP's Anouk Sickman answered on Gregory's goal. Elly Skinner (Prompton, PA/Honesdale) assisted on both Gregory and Koenig's goal.

KU Goalie Karly Waltman (Birdsboro, PA/Twin Valley) recorded eight saves.

Kutztown returns back to action on Wednesday, September 21 when it hosts East Stroudsburg University in a PSAC contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on University Field.
