Kutztown Tops ESU and Misericordia at Tri-Meet

RESULTS

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The Kutztown University women's swimming team defeated Misericordia University 140-122 and East Stroudsburg University 160-102, at a tri-meet hosted by ESU on Sunday.

The Golden Bears used efforts from everyone to collect both victories.

Jess Mape (Camp Hill, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) led the way for KU, winning three events. Mape finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of one minute, nine seconds, the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.09), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.77).

Jordan Shapiro (Yardville, N.J./Princeton) also enjoyed the day, claiming two first place finishes. Shapiro won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.82) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.86). Shapiro was second in the 50-yard free (25.55).

Lauren Galetto (Vineland, N.J./Sacred Heart), Elizabeth Metz (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor), and Lauren Malloy (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) were huge for the Golden Bears as they finished in the top three in multiple events.

Galetto won the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.83) and finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.18). Metz finished first in the 1000-yard free with a time of 11:13.52. Malloy finished the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.32, to win the event. Malloy also competed in the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.60) and finished third. Metz and Malloy both competed in the 500-yard freestyle where the duo finished second and third respectively. Malloy finished with a time of (5:28.71) and Malloy followed with a time of 5:30.22.

Natalie Carr (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) also tossed in two third place finishes to help Kutztown. Carr finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.30 and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:40.06).

Caitlin Davies (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) also finished third in the 50-yard free with a time of 25.56.

The 200-yard medley relay team finished second in the event. Shapiro, Mape, Jessica Bieiler, and Davies finished with a time of 1:54.02.

"This meet was a total team effort," Kutztown University head coach Tim Flannery said. "Everyone was the difference in the meet. There were many close finishes. The 500-yard free with Malloy, Metz, and Stephanie Kearns (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) was a big event for us and gave us a little breathing room with three events to go. Galetto's first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly was even bigger and put us within four points of the winning point of the meet against Misericordia with two events to go. Galetto had a great finish."

Kutztown returns back to action when it heads to Mansfield University on Saturday, Nov. 5 for a meet starting at 1 p.m.
