Kutztown falls to La Salle in season opener

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (October 15, 2011) – The Kutztown University men's tennis team battled all the way until the end Saturday afternoon, but dropped a 5-4 decision to La Salle University in its opening match of the season at the KU Tennis Courts.  (BOXSCORE)

The Golden Bears (0-1 overall) had a hard-earned, three-set victory from Arjun Arora (New Dehli, India/G.D. Goenka Public School) to tie the match with one singles match remaining.  Arora started his sophomore season off with a positive comeback win (4-6, 6-1, 6-3).  Unfortunately, La Salle's Trevor Donovan took down KU's Darren Krout (Gordonville, PA/Pequea Valley) in the final match of the day to secure the victory for the Explorers (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).

Juan Gutierrez (San Jose, Costa Rica/SEK International School) earned his first singles win of the season over Chas Berenato (7-5, 6-1).  Also winning in singles was Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley).  The sophomore defeated Joseph LaBate in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).

In doubles play, Amin and Parth Girme (Pune, India/B.M.C.C.) earned the lone for KU.  The duo handily won over La Salle's Dale Fetterman and Robert Kasinow, 8-3.

Saturday was Kutztown's only match of the fall season and now prepares for its spring season, capped off with the conference championships.
