No.16 Kutztown tallies 2-0 win over East Stroudsburg

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (October 11, 2011)—The nationally-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team defeated East Stroudsburg University 2-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game on Tuesday afternoon at Keystone Field. (BOXSCORE)

The Golden Bears (10-3 overall, 8-2 PSAC) are ranked 16th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association top 25 poll. KU grabbed its ninth shutout of the season against the Warriors (4-8-1 overall, 1-8-1 PSAC). Kutztown is currently in first place in the PSAC.

KU pleased its fans by winning the last home game of the regular season. Senior Carolynne Kahl (Bethel, PA/Tuplehocken) scored her fifth goal of the season when she plunged a ten-footer in the 86th minute to give the Golden Bears the solid 2-0 advantage. In Kutztown's last six
games, Kahl has scored in four, all resulting in wins.

It didn't take too long for the Golden Bear offense to warm up as Maria Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) impressively scored the first goal in the 16th minute to put Kutztown on the board. Borland's goal was a header off a corner kick from BrieAnn Shipkowski (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central). Borland leads Kutztown in goals with nine. Shipkowski  now has two assists this year.

KU outshot ESU 18-5. Kutztown had several opportunities to get on the board but East Stroudsburg's defense was persistent. As a team the Warriors recorded two saves. ESU goalie Nicki Keiser finished with eight saves on the day.

Sophomore goalie Casey Behrendt (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) finished with three saves, recording two in the second half.

As the season progress, Kutztown continues to show its depth by allowing many of its new faces to see time on the field.

The Golden Bears will face a five-game road series that features four critical PSAC games. KU is 4-0 on the road this season.

Kutztown will began the series facing Bloomsburg on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon. Other games include Lock Haven University, Clarion University, and C.W. Post in a non-conference game. KU will end the regular season at Mansfield University on Saturday, Oct. 29.
