KU moves up to No. 5 as it prepares for showdown against undefeated ESU

KUTZTOWN, PA (September 28, 2010) – After going 3-0 last week, the Kutztown University field hockey team has moved up to fifth in this week's Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) Division II National Coaches Poll. (Complete Rankings)

Kutztown (4-1 overall) is one of six Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schools to be ranked in the latest national poll. Shippensburg is first, East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg hold the No. 3 and 4 rankings, respectively, C.W. Post is sixth, and Millersville dropped to eighth.

In their final game at University Field in the month of September, the Golden Bears were able to pull out a 2-1 victory against a fellow top PSAC contender in Millersville. Junior Julie Rosenkaimer scored the game-winning goal for Kutztown with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game. Kutztown's victory against Millersville sparked a three-game winning streak. The Golden Bears defeated Slippery Rock 3-0, and Seton Hill 7-3 over the weekend.

Kutztown has had no problems scoring this season as they rank fourth in Division II in scoring offense (3.8), and fifth in total points per game (10.4).  Jenna Gregory leads Kutztown on offense, as well as being in the top 20 in overall scoring, with four goals on the season including two in her last game against Seton Hill. Gregory leads Division II in assists, averaging one per game.

The Golden Bears have also seen early season success from freshman Erin Reynolds, this week's KU Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Like Gregory, Reynolds also scored two goals in Sunday's victory against Seton Hill. Reynolds has three goals and three assists to rank second on the team.

Kutztown heads into this week facing one of its toughest opponents in East Stroudsburg University Wednesday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m. Fans can follow live stats of that contest by  CLICKING HERE. The two teams split their two 2009 matchups.

The Warriors are one of four teams to remain undefeated through the first three weeks of the season. Like Kutztown, East Stroudsburg has a high powered offense led by Jessica Frantz who is No. 1 in goals per game (2.57) in Division II.

Kutztown finishes its four-game road trip against C.W. Post (5-2 overall) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
