KUTZTOWN, PA (July 30, 2010) – Keri Brown, Kristin Cupido, April Doyle, Steph Grimm, Lynn Lisofsky and Jessica Schlecter were named were named Division II Track and Field All-Academic female honorees by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Kutztown women's track and field team concluded a fantastic season by finishing third in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) outdoor championships and fifth in the PSAC indoor championships. The third place effort at the outdoor championships was the highest finish since 2007.
Brown finished third in the 1,500-meter race to earn all-PSAC honors and establish a school record at the PSAC Championships (4:34.32) and was eighth in the 800-meter dash (2:21.44). She competed in the 800 and 1,500 at the NCAA Division II championships in Charlotte. Cupido was eighth in 10,000-meter run (37:54.45) and sixth in the 3,000-meter run (10:16.73) at the PSAC Championships.
Doyle had a tremendous freshman season. She was named the PSAC Field Freshman Athlete of the Year and competed in the United States Junior National Track and Field Championships. She won the shot put at both of the PSAC outdoor Championships with a toss of 44 feet, two inches and PSAC Indoor Championships with an effort of 43 feet, 1.75 inches.
Grimm, Schlechter and Lisofsky all graduated on May 8. Grimm finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run (4:44.31) and 15th in the 3,000-meter run (10:44.91) at the PSAC outdoor championships. In addition Grimm, teamed with Brown and Lisofsky on the school record distance medley relay team that participated in the 2010 NCAA indoor championships.
Lisofsky finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.50) at the PSAC Championships and was a NCAA provisional qualifier in the event. She won the 400-meter hurdles at the East Stroudsburg All-America Invite (1:06.39) and was second in the same event at the Washington & Lee (64.47) and Shippensburg Paul Kaiser Invite (1:05.01).
To qualify for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher. She must also have met either NCAA Division II indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standards or have participated in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. Overall, a record total of 276 student-athletes representing 72 institutions compose the group.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. The organization represents over 8,000 coaching members encompassing 94% of all NCAA track & field programs (DI, DII, and DIII) and includes members representing the NAIA as well as a number of state high school coaches associations. The USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.
