Tenth-ranked Kutztown maintains torrid pace in win over Adelphi

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (April 21, 2010) - The Kutztown University baseball team exploded with a 20-1 win over Adelphi University in a nonconference contest on Wednesday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The 10th-ranked Golden Bears (32-9) pounded out 19 hits, four of which went for home runs, while the pitching and defense silenced the Panthers (26-13) offense all day. The Golden Bears scored in bunches against Adelphi, which entered the game ranked third in the NCAA East Region weekly poll. KU scored three in the first inning, six in the second and seven in the fifth.

It was the 19th time this season, Kutztown has scored 10 or more runs and fifth time in its last six games.

Mike Kacelowicz set the tone immediately, belting a first inning homer. Three innings later, Kacelowicz delivered his sixth round tripper of the season, his first multi-homer game this year. He finished with a game-high and personal season-best six RBIs, while crossing the plate with three runs scored.

Shayne Houck and Mike Dugan also swung hot bats, each smacking a home run, scoring two runs and adding two RBIs.

Jared Frey added pop out of the two-spot with a bases clearing double in the seven-run second inning. Brett Wigder had a single and double to finish the game 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.

The Golden Bear offensive output was nice, but not necessary with the pitching performance handed in by Ryan Cassidy and Trevor Rosenberg. Cassidy picked up the win going the first five innings without surrendering a run. Rosenberg went the next four, striking out seven and allowing only three hits.

Kutztown hosts Millersville Friday in a twinbill at North Campus Field starting at 1 p.m. The two teams play again at Millersville Saturday afternoon also at 1 p.m.
