KU men and women tennis fall in regular season finale

BLOOMSBURG, PA (April 18, 2010) - The Kutztown University men's tennis team fell 5-1 to Queens College and the women's team took a 5-0 defeat against the University of Charleston in the regular season finale at Bloomsburg on Sunday afternoon. (Men's boxscore) (Women's boxscore)

In the men's contest, Kaushik Das battled back from a first set loss to win in the super tiebreaker.

The men finished off the regular season with an 8-4 record, while the women were 9-9 overall.

The Golden Bear men earned the top seed in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament and will square off with Millersville in the semifinal round on Friday April 23. The contest will start at 2 p.m. at Bloomsburg.


The other semifinal matches second-seeded Bloomsburg against third-seeded Mercyhurst. The two match winners will meet for the PSAC Championship Saturday afternoon at Noon. Kutztown has defeated all three teams this season. The Golden Bears beat Mercyhurst (5-4), Millersville (6-3) and Bloomsburg (7-2).

The Golden Bear women will get right back into action on Tuesday April 20, when they meet West Chester at 3:30 p.m. on the Keystone Courts. The Golden Bears enter as the No. 2 seed and WCU is third.

The winner of the match advances to Bloomsburg for the PSAC Championships to meet West top seed and reigning PSAC champion California, Pa. on Friday. The other first-round match has Mercyhurst visiting Slippery Rock. The winner of that match will play East top seed Bloomsburg.
