Big innings lead Kutztown past Newport News Apprentice

HAMPTON, VA (February 19, 2010) – Sophomore Shayne Houck had an afternoon to remember as he had four hits and drove in eight runs to lead the Kutztown University baseball team to a 22-7 victory over host Newport News Apprentice School Friday afternoon on the second day of the Builder Invitational at War Memorial Stadium. Overall, the Golden Bears (2-0) pounded out 22 hits. Fourteen different KU players crossed the plate and 10 players had at least one hit.

However, the day belonged to Houck, who slugged a three-run home run that highlighted Kutztown's seven-run fifth inning. He also contributed a two-out RBI double that contributed to an eight run eighth inning. Houck had two doubles to go with his home run.

Dugan's two-run homer was the zenith of an eighth-inning in which 14 Kutztown players came to the plate. Along with Dugan, freshman Matt Albaugh and freshman Gilbert Vega also finished with a pair of RBIs. Starting pitcher Jonathan Grosse pitched four innings, struck out three batters and allowed one run.
