Kutztown wraps up North Campus Field slate against Millersville

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – In the final true home series of 2026, the Kutztown University baseball team hosted the Millersville Marauders at North Campus Field, falling 5-0 and 12-3 in a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division games on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Bears (16-25, 6-18 PSAC East) got a strong start on the mound from junior Kannon Zdimal (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) in the opening game, but once both teams settled in, it was the Marauders (31-13, 15-9 PSAC East) who took control and finished off the weekend sweep of KU as both teams look forward to their regular season finales next weekend.

Game 1: Millersville 5, Kutztown 0
Zdimal (L, 4-5) was the headliner for the Golden Bears, letting up three hits through five innings and finishing with eight strikeouts on 116 pitches. His complete game performance was strong through five innings outside of a third-inning home run, and the defense behind him continued to keep the team in the game.

However, a four-run sixth gave extra momentum to the Marauders and put the finishing touches on a shutout for Millersville, who saw Rece Ritchey (W, 4-1) and Joe Morrissey (SV, 5) combine for a five-hit shutout, also fanning eight batters.

Five different Golden Bears recorded hits, while four more had walks and another two reached after being hit by pitch, but nothing could get KU's offense off the ground in the end. The home team finished with five hits and an error, while Millersville claimed the win after scoring five runs on six hits.

Game 2: Millersville 12, Kutztown 3
It was more action from both teams in the second game, but once again, the visitors emerged victorious. Millersville had nine runs on the board – including a five-run fourth inning – before Kutztown could get in the game, and after that, there wasn't much the Maroon and Gold could do.

Kutztown's trio of runs came thanks to a two-RBI double in the fourth from Aiden Soumas (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) and a Bennett Secrest (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) solo homer in the sixth to round out both teams' scoring. Nick Varda (Columbia, Md./Atholton), one of the first two runs, led the team by going 2-for-2 in the second game, while three other players had a hit in the loss.

Both starters claimed decisions on the evening, as Millersville's Matt Shamany (W, 5-3) went 3.2 innings and allowed two runs while striking out two. Eddie Frye (Lorton, Va./South County) (L, 1-5) matched his inning count, throwing 100 pitches while striking out six batters on the day. The Marauders had 12 runs on 12 hits, while Kutztown scored three runs on five hits in defeat.

Kutztown has its final four games of the season late next week, as it will head to Allentown for the first two games against the East Stroudsburg Warriors at Coca-Cola Park, with first pitch times set for 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m on Thursday, April 30. The team will then travel to Stroudsburg's Creekview Park for the final two games on May 1, with the opening first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
