KUTZTOWN, PA (October 26, 2010) – The Kutztown University field hockey team is ranked fifth for the fifth consecutive week in the 2010 Kookaburra/ National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFCHA) Division II top poll. (COMPLETE RANKINGS)
Kutztown (8-5 overall, 3-2 PSAC East) went 2-1 this past week as they achieved victories over Millersville (4-3) and Mansfield (3-1). The Golden Bears' only defeat came in a double overtime contest at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 4-3.
Ahead of Kutztown is this week's rankings are Shippensburg (first), University of Massachusetts Lowell (second), East Stroudsburg (third), and Bloomsburg (fourth).
Kutztown's offense has played well all year long as it ranks sixth in Division II (2.84/game) The Golden Bears are led by senior Abbey Sheeler who has eight goals this season and ranks 26th overall in goals per game (0.62). Sheeler also ranks 23rd in points per game (1.54).
Also contributing on offense are Jenna Gregory and Erin Reynolds who have seven and five goals, respectively. Goalkeeper Emily Falko has also played well this year as she ranks 15th in goals against average in Division II (2.42).
Kutztown's next game is sure to be one of its toughest and most anticipated game's of the year as it hosts third-ranked East Stroudsburg University Tuesday night at University Field beginning at 7 p.m. ESU (13-2 overall, 4-1 PSAC East) is 2-2 in its last four games as it is coming off a double overtime loss to Shippensburg last Saturday (3-2). The Warriors are led by Jessica Frantz who has 26 goals this season and is ranked first in Division II in points per game (3.87) and goals per game (1.73).
Kutztown concludes the week on Saturday, October 30th as it hosts C.W. Post in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup beginning at 1:00 p.m. at University Field.
