KUTZTOWN, Pa. (October 24, 2009) - The Kutztown University field hockey team fell 1-0 in overtime to C. W. Post in the season finale.
It was the second time these teams went into overtime, with C. W. Post winning on September 26 4-3 in double overtime at Kutztown.
The Golden Bears defense contained C. W. Post throughout the contest. However, during the seven-on-seven overtime the Pioneers were able to score off of a fast break.
Freshman goalkeeper
Karly Waltman (Birdsboro, PA/Twin Valley) (Birdsboro/Twin Valley), making her second start of the season, made two saves. The KU defense only allowed three shots on goal throughout the contest.
Jenna Gregory (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) had two shots on goal, while four other Golden Bears got one shot on goal.
The Golden Bears finished the season 12-8 overall and 4-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division. KU finished one game behind East Stroudsburg for the final spot in the east for the PSAC playoffs.
Senior
Lauren Solley (Oley, PA/Olley Valley) (Oley/Oley Valley) led the Golden Bears with 13 goals. She finished the season with 31 points. Solley entered the contest tied for ninth in Division II with her 1.94 goals per game average.
Anne Waapu (Hastings, NEW ZEALAND/) (Hastings, NEW ZEALAND) and Gregory were tied for second in scoring with 10 goals.
