LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- Kutztown University acrobatics & tumbling emerged from a closely-contested meet with a 212.530-204.125 victory over Georgian Court on Tuesday evening.
The Golden Bears captured their third win of the season (3-4) while improving to 3-0 all-time against Georgian Court.
Tuesday's meet went down to the wire after the teams were separated by a mere 0.80 points at halftime. The Lions (2-2) won the first two events by slim margins, with a 28.35-28.15 advantage in the compulsory event and 22.80-22.50 edge in the acro event.
Kutztown gained the lead with a season-best 28.200 in the pyramid event. The open heat scored a season-high 9.60/10, while the inversion (9.15/9.80) and synchronized (9.45/10) heats also achieved 9.0 or better scores.
The Golden Bears went to the break ahead 78.85-78.05. Georgian Court crept closer with a 23.25-22.95 win in the toss event but the visitors extended their lead in the tumbling and team events.
KU outscored the Lions by nearly two full points in the tumbling event, highlighted by a season-best 9.25/9.55 score in the 6-element pass. In the team event, the Maroon and Gold put up 68.28 points, their third-highest score in the event this season.
Kutztown will return home on Saturday, March 28, looking to secure a Mountain East Conference Tournament bid against Wheeling. Meet time is 2 p.m.
