KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown senior attacker
Katie Yocum (Hanover, Pa./South Western) has been named USA Lacrosse Magazine Division II National Player of the Week and PSAC East Co-Offensive Athlete of the Week, the organizations announced Tuesday, making history while extending the Golden Bears' remarkable start to the season.
Yocum becomes the first Kutztown women's lacrosse student-athlete to earn a national player of the week honor in program history. The PSAC recognition marks the third consecutive week a Golden Bear has earned a conference weekly award, following PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honors for goalkeeper
Marisa Bragg (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) (Week 1) and defender
Rowan Hall (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern) (Week 2).
Yocum shares the PSAC East honor with No. 10 East Stroudsburg's Paige Moreland, who led the Warriors to a 24-9 victory over No. 16 Adelphi.
The senior put together a historic week for No. 17Â Kutztown during the Golden Bears' spring break road trip. Yocum tied the program's single-game goal record with eight tallies in a 21-15 victory over No. 22 Saint Anselm, matching recent graduate
Sam Graf's (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) mark set in 2025. The performance led Kutztown to its first ranked win of the season.
Yocum followed up the record-tying outing with a six-goal performance against Bentley, including the game-winning goal, as Kutztown rolled to a 19-8 victory. Across the two games, the senior totaled 14 goals and 14 points while dominating the draw circle with eight draw controls and contributing defensively with four ground balls and a caused turnover.
The stellar week has propelled Yocum to second in the PSAC and ninth nationally in goals per game, with 22 goals in five games this season. The Golden Bears have also climbed the national rankings, jumping from No. 20 to No. 17 in the IWLCA poll and sitting at No. 15 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine national poll.
The Golden Bears (4-1) return to action Wednesday, taking on No. 10 East Stroudsburg at 3 p.m. on Keystone Field in their PSAC conference opener.
