LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Kutztown field hockey junior midfielder Marissa Rice (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Rice continued her standout season in No. 1 Kutztown's 4-0 shutout victory over No. 7 IUP on Saturday, scoring two goals to help the Golden Bears open PSAC play with a win.
The two-goal performance marked Rice's fourth multi-goal game of the season. She has now scored in six of Kutztown's 10 games and leads the PSAC with 12 goals, averaging 1.20 goals per game.
Rice has been a key contributor to Kutztown's perfect 10-0 start. The Golden Bears have outscored opponents 57-4 through their first 10 games and have posted seven shutouts.
The back-to-back weekly honors mark the first time Rice has earned PSAC Athlete of the Week recognition in consecutive weeks.
Kutztown returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 7, when it hosts Millersville at 7 p.m. at Andre Reed Stadium.
