KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown field hockey continued its perfect start to the season Wednesday night, shutting out Millersville, 6-0. The top-ranked Golden Bears scored five of their six goals off penalty corners, while Olivia Kirkpatrick (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) opened the scoring with a penalty stroke.
Graduate student Kirkpatrick put Kutztown (11-0, 2-0 PSAC) on the board just 1:49 into the contest, converting her fourth stroke of the season. Senior Rachel Galasso (Sweet Valley, Pa./Lake Lehman) added to the lead at 8:27, finding the back of the cage on a hard strike off a corner, with junior Taylor Vaccaro (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) earning the assist.
After a scoreless second quarter, sophomore Julia Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) extended the Golden Bears' lead at 36:32, scoring off a penalty corner. Just 1:36 later, senior Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) found the cage off another corner, converting a feed from junior Marlee Fetrow (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) for her first goal of the season to make it 4-0.
Senior Jordan Stroup (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) added to the lead at 52:52, finishing a shot after the initial attempt was stopped by the Millersville (3-7, 0-2 PSAC) goalkeeper's pads. Fetrow capped the scoring at 57:10, finding the back of the cage off a corner insert by Galasso to give Kutztown a 6-0 advantage.
Junior Lorelai Lehenky (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) started in goal and played into the fourth quarter before sophomore Tess Adolf (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) entered the cage with just over six minutes remaining.
The Golden Bears return to action Saturday, Oct. 10, traveling to No. 7 Slippery Rock for an 11 a.m. start.
