KUTZTOWN, Pa. – During the summer months, Kutztown athletics takes a break from competition. So, what do Golden Bear student-athletes like to do in their down time? Over the next month, we will be catching up with some KU Golden Bears.
Jack Hollar (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) – Cross Country/Track & Field – Senior
What is your favorite thing about summer?
- My favorite thing about summer is I get to spend time with family and get to see extended family a lot more than I would during the school year.
What is your favorite thing to do during the summer?
- My favorite thing to do in the summertime is probably camping out, either in a tent or an RV, always a good time and great food, with great people.
Favorite vacation spot you've been to? One place you haven't been to yet, but would like to?
- Favorite vacation spot I've been to would be Lake Placid, New York, live the scenery up there and the hiking. One place I'd like to visit is Montana, I've been there before, but was really young, would love to get back there and soak in the scenery.
What have you been up to/current plans this summer from a sport perspective?
- This summer from a sports perspective I have been training for the upcoming cross country season, building back up my base and starting to throw some workouts in.
What's a song you can jam out to that makes you feel like it's summer?
- I'm a big classic rock guy so a song I jam out to a lot in the summertime would be Live Every Moment by REO Speedwagon. Reminds me to enjoy life.
What do you miss about KU during the summer months?
- I miss my friends and the running routes at KU that I do with the cross country team. Running by yourself isn't always the greatest.
Favorite place to be on campus when it's a nice, sunny and warm day?
- Favorite place on campus when it's warm would be the DMZ. When I was living in the dorms, my friends and I would throw a football and play music out there.
Favorite summer dessert/treat?
- Favorite summer treat would be Klondike Bars, they're insane.
Favorite way to keep cool during the summer?
- Favorite way to cool off in the summer time is to go swimming in a lake or creek, especially after running.
Any summer traditions you do with friends/family that you enjoy?
- The best summer tradition for me is the Pocono race weekend. I'm a big NASCAR guy and a lot of the family gets involved to go camp out there in the infield.
What do you look forward to most about returning to KU in August?
- The thing I most look forward to when returning to campus is seeing my friends and getting ready for a brand new cross country season, have a feeling it's going to be a good one.
