KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Sophomore
Brooke Graham (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) tied for the second-best round Saturday with a 5-over par 77 to remain in contention for the individual title and the Kutztown University women's golf team held onto fourth-place in the team standings in the PSAC Championship at Berkleigh Golf Club.
Graham cut three strokes off her opening round with an outstanding effort on the par 72 course playing at 5,803 yards this weekend. The Carlisle, Pa., native put up a massive 11 pars and one birdie while not shooting worse than bogey on any hole. She parred the first five holes and carded her lone birdie on the par 4, 339-yard eighth before making the turn at 1-over 36.
Graham shot 4-over 41 coming in for 77, which was tied for second on the day with the West Chester duo of Morgan Kunze and Kirsten Vanderhorst and one shot back of two-time defending PSAC individual champion Ditte Petersen from Gannon. Graham and Kunze are tied for second overall with 36-hole totals of 157 (+13). Petersen holds a three-shot lead at 154 (+10).
Fellow sophomore
Rhi Stutz (Prescott, Wisc./Prescott) stepped up with an 84 in round two, her second-lowest round of the spring. Stutz moved up two spots to 23rd in the individual standings, largely on the strength of her front nine. She matched Graham by shooting 1-over going out, which included six pars and a birdie on the 271-yard par 4 second. Stutz sits in a tie for 23rd with a total of 171 (87-84).
Gabby Cohen (Jeffersonville, N.Y./Sullivan West) and
Alexis Peet (Greentown, Pa./Wallenpaupack) each fired a round of 89 to keep Kutztown's scoring consistent over the first two days. Cohen had four pars during her round and is currently 30th overall (86-89=175), while Peet had seven pars and is 38th (96-89=185).
Grace Klements (Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Pinelands Regional) recorded four pars while shooting 94 and is 31st in the standings at 179 (85-94).
The Golden Bears shot 339 as a team (+51) after putting forth a 338 (+50) in round one.
Gannon continues to lead the team standings, now by 11 shots over West Chester (637-648). Millersville is third at 660, followed by Kutztown (677) and Bloomsburg (685).
Sunday's final round is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Kutztown will be paired with players from Bloomsburg and Clarion, and the Golden Bears' first player will tee off at 10:20 a.m.
In the race for the individual title, Graham tees off at 11 a.m., while Petersen and Kunze will play in the final trio that goes off at 11:50 a.m.
