PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior Kiana Young (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) ran to a record in the 200m and also raced into the top-10 in program history in the 60m to highlight Kutztown women's indoor track & field Saturday at the Widener Indoor Classic in Philadelphia.
 
Young's 25.29 set the new record, which was only held for one year by teammate Beth Schearer (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), who had a 25.33 on Feb. 12, 2024. Young also clocked a 7.83 in the 60m prelim, which is fourth all-time at KU, to qualify for the final. Brook Smith (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) finished just behind at 7.92, which ranks seventh all-time. Smith also jumped into the record books in the 200m with a 25.63, which is sixth-best in program lore.
 
Sophia Knerr (Columbia, N.J./North Warren Regional) was another Golden Bear that etched her name in the record books as her 10:22.44 in the 3000m ranks ninth all-time and earned her a second-place finish overall Saturday.
 
There were five other Golden Bears, along with Young, Smith and Knerr that earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying standards. That includes Deandra Young (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and Jaelyn D'Amelio (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) in the mile run, Raechel Bonner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) in the 400m and 200m, Schearer in the 200m and Delaney Beard (Sinking Spring, Pa./Governor Mifflin) in the triple jump.
 
Kutztown will compete in its final meet of the indoor regular season next Friday, Feb. 21, and it will be at home as KU hosts its annual Golden Bear Invitational at O'Pake Fieldhouse.
