LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Delaney Beard (Sinking Spring, Pa./Governor Mifflin) improved upon her second-best indoor triple jump in school history to win the event and
Raechel Bonner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was victorious in the 500m to lead Kutztown University women's track & field at the Bucknell Bison Open & Multi on Saturday.
The duo of event winners were joined by a program top 10 performer in
Kiana Young (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg), who recorded Kutztown's sixth-fastest time in the 60m.
Beard, who came into the meet with a personal best of 11.60m (38'0.75") in the triple jump at last year's PSAC Indoor Championships, put forth a mark of 11.62m (38'1.50") on her only registered jump of the day to best runner-up Megan Baggetta of Division I Bucknell by nearly one-and-a-half feet. The new PR keeps Beard second on the school's all-time top 10 behind only Katie Catania, who went 11.76m (38'7") back in January, 2013.
Though it's not a PSAC Championship event and contested often, Bonner stepped into the 500m and dominated with a 1:19.02, more than 2.4 seconds clear of second place.
Young paced three Golden Bear entries in 60m prelims with the seventh-best time (8.05) to qualify for finals. She was joined in the top eight by
Brook Smith (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) (8.09). In the finals, Young broke the eight-second threshold for a new PR of 7.95, which is tied for sixth in school history with Kimberly Richardson (2012 PSAC Indoor Championships).
Kiana's twin sister,
Deandra Young (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg), also made her mark Saturday by finishing second in the mile with a PSAC cut time of 5:20.80. Teammate
Jensen Kraft (Nutley, N.J./Saint Mary) was sixth of 25 runners in 5:26.12.
Distance specialist
Jaelyn D'Amelio (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) ran a PSAC qualifying 10:32.38 in the 3000m to place fifth.
The Maroon and Gold also received top 10 event finishes from Beard in the long jump (fourth, 5.21m/17'1.25"), Smith in the 60m (sixth, 8.05),
Kennedy Bulger (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) in the weight throw (eighth, 13.39m/43'11.25") and
Taniyah Lawler (Chester, Pa./Chester) in the 400m (10th, 1:02.21).
Kutztown will take a contingent of athletes to Penn State next Saturday for the Sykes & Sabock Invitational.
