LANCASTER, Pa. -- Freshman Nevin Shaw (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) set a new school record in the 200-yard breaststroke during Sunday morning's preliminary heats, only to get back in the pool and break the hours-old record during finals with a 2:07.45. Backed by Shaw's record-setting performance, the Kutztown University men's swim team collected eight program top 10 times and 16 PSAC cut times to finish eighth in the team standings at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational.

Shaw continued his stellar rookie campaign and capped an outstanding weekend by shattering his own records in the 100 and 200 breast. He cut more than three seconds off his previous top time of 2:10.96 in the 200 breast, set last week at Ursinus, with a 2:07.61 in prelims to advance to the A Final. The Lansdale, Pa., native trimmed another tenth and a half off in the finals to place sixth in 2:07.45.

Sophomore Theo Miksa (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) joined the top 10 in the 200 breast with a career-best 2:14.00 in prelims to rank seventh all-time at KU. Miksa competed in the C Final, where he took fourth in the heat and 20th overall.

Another talented first-year swimmer nearly took down a 47-year old school record. Andrew Pletz (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) finished runner-up in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:17.45, just 1.2 seconds off the record of 16:16.22 held by All-American Ed Flory from 1978.

Matheson Bair (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) moved from fourth to third on the 100 free top 10 with a 46.61 in prelims. He dropped another two tenths to finish seventh in the A Final with a 46.40.

In the 200 backstroke, RJ Otten (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) made his way onto the top 10 with the seventh-fastest time in school history (1:59.09). Otten posted the 10th-best time in prelims to make the B Final. The sophomore from Ballston Spa, N.Y., moved even higher on the list with a 1:57.84 during finals to place 10th overall and fifth on KU's top 10. Otten also secured a fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a PSAC cut time of 1:55.80.

Along with its program top 10 times, KU got PSAC cut times from Reilly Jones (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) in the 1,650 free (17:03.26), and Zach Schurr (Chattanooga, Tenn./McCallie School) (2:03.17) and Aaron Jost (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) (2:07.65) in the 200 back.

Kutztown moved past Dickinson in the team standings on Sunday to finish eighth with 561 points.

The Golden Bears will compete for the final time in 2025 when they host Arcadia at the Keystone Natatorium on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 1 p.m.
