LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior Ana Soto (Hamburg, N.J./Vernon Township) broke her 50-yard freestyle program record twice while ducking below the 24 second mark for the first time in program history, while a number of Golden Bears secured conference-qualifying marks on the opening day of the Franklin & Marshall Invitational inside the Kunkel Aquatic Center on Friday.

Along with Soto's top ten mark, sophomore Sarah Zeminski (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) also secured a fifth-place finish in her event – the 500-yard freestyle – to place among the top competitors in a 63-team field. Her time of 5:11.33 was one of three conference qualifying times set by a Golden Bear in the event, and one of nine overall cut times reached in the preliminary rounds.

Frannie Pease-Wingenter (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium) secured a top-15 mark in the 50 freestyle (24.46) while Julia Kopcho (Pemberton, N.J./Camden Catholic) finished 17th in the 500 freestyle to headline the 18 KU women swimming in the first portion of the competition.

Kutztown sits in sixth place in the overall standings after the first day of competition

The Golden Bears return to the pool on Saturday, when they will compete in six preliminary and seven final events on the second of three days at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational.
