BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore
Willie Wiles (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) paced the Kutztown men's cross country lineup, finishing as the top Golden Bear for the first time this season as KU placed 13th in the team standings out of 38 teams in the Men's College Brown 8k Friday afternoon at the 51st annual Paul Short Run at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus.
Wiles crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 25:34.1, ranking 49th out of the field of 316 runners.
Robby Lloyd (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) just missed a top-50 finish, placing 52nd overall with a time of 25:36.7.
Peyton Small (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) ended inside the top-100 in the field at 73rd in 25:44.4.
Adam Brocato (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall),
Cole Doms (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling),
Jack Hollar (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) and
Zach Haase (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) all were grouped together towards the middle of the pack, finishing in the 121-137 range.
Port Habalar (Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport),
Connor Murphy (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and
Weston Fry (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) rounded out the Maroon and Gold lineup.
The Paul Short Run is in honor of the late Paul Short who served as Lehigh's Business Manager and Assistant Director of Athletics for 29 years. During his tenure at Lehigh, Short became an avid fan of Lehigh cross country and track and field. He was a 1934 graduate of Lehigh and Roger S. Penske/Lehigh Athletics Hall of Fame inductee in 2000 who excelled as a football, wrestling, baseball and lacrosse student-athlete.
Kutztown next competes in its final regular season meet next Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Golden Ram Invitational in West Chester.
