Golden Bears get a look at PSAC competition in Crimson Hawk Fall Invitational

INDIANA, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's swimming team enjoyed a strong Friday outing in Western Pennsylvania, securing a pair of top finishes across eight competitions at the Crimson Hawk Fall Invitational and IUP Sprint Frenzy, hosted by Indiana (Pa.) inside the Pidgeon Natatorium.

The Golden Bears, facing a handful of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponents on the afternoon, brought home a program top 10 time courtesy of sophomore Sarah Zeminski (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), who recorded a 1:00.03 mark in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing fourth among the field while setting a conference qualifying mark – one of four claimed on the day.

Senior Ana Soto (Hamburg, N.J./Vernon Township) claimed a pair of those conference marks, her first coming in a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle swim after a time of 55.32, followed by an eighth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.53. Fellow senior Frannie Pease-Wingenter (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium) finished fifth in that race, securing a PSAC-qualifying time of 25.38.

Kutztown's 200-yard free relay A-team took home bronze, as Kara Damico (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley), Pease-Wingenter, Julia Kopcho (Pemberton, N.J./Camden Catholic) and Soto combined for a time of 1:40.93. It was the second third-place finish for KU, as the 400-yard free relay squad made up of the same members swam a 3:42.53 race for another top-three finish.

Sophomore Phoebe Armes (Somerset, UK/Millfield School) finished fourth (29.61) in a loaded 50-yard backstroke field. The Maroon and Gold had a trio of fifth-place finishes with Birta Smaradottir's (Mosfellsbær, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) 100 breaststroke time of 1:11.80, Zeminski's 50 butterfly time of 27.54 and Kopcho's 100 IM time of 1:04.29.

The Golden Bears will look ahead to a dual meet against Montclair State on Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 1 p.m.
