4x400m team captures conference crown as women’s track & field finishes seventh at PSAC Indoor Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The 4x400m relay team of Kiana Young (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg), Taniyah Lawler (Chester, Pa./Chester), Beth Schearer (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), and Raechel Bonner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) won gold as the Kutztown University women's track & field team wrapped up action at the 2024 PSAC Indoor Championships Monday over at Lehigh. The Golden Bears finished seventh as a team with 45 pts., a two-spot and 11-point improvement from last season.

The 4x400 squad ran a blistering 3:54.70, besting Shippensburg's relay squad en route to a gold medal. It's been a spectacular season for the foursome of Young, Lawler, Schearer, and Bonner, who broke the school record at the Fasttrack National Invitational back on Feb. 9 and entered the weekend with the top time in the conference. They become only the third 4x400 team in program history to win the PSAC indoor title and the first since Ashley Stewart, Meghan Forsythe, Kelly Groth, and Tishun Graham in 2019.

Bonner also had a spectacular day individually, capturing two third-place finishes. The Harrisburg native ran 58.60 in the 400m, along with a 25.60 in the 200m. It's her second and third individual medals in her indoor career.

Delaney Beard (Sinking Spring, Pa./Governor Mifflin) had a historic day in KU terms, finishing fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.60m (38'0.75"). That set a new indoor personal best and is the second-best mark in program history.

Slippery Rock finished first in the team standings with 136 points, followed by Shippensburg with 106. Seton Hill finished in third well behind the top two with 58 points.

The Golden Bears have concluded their 2023-24 indoor season and now turn their attention to the outdoor season. KU travels to the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. on March 22-23.
