GREENSBURG, Pa. – The 13th-ranked Kutztown University wrestling team claimed wins in seven of ten weight classes in a 32-10 victory over the Seton Hill Griffins in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Friday night dual at the McKenna Center.
The Golden Bears (3-0) took care of business in their only fall conference matchup of 2024, backing up their top-15 ranking with a dominant performance over the Griffins (5-4) in their conference opener. Kutztown dominated the latter part of the dual, as the visitors claimed the final three bouts and four of the final five matchups to take the 22-point win.
Kutztown's night was highlighted by a 157-pound pin from sophomore Jeremy McKinney (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford Area) in the opening period and a 197-pound fall from 11th-ranked Wayne McIntyre (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North). The Golden Bears added five-point technical falls from 133-pound redshirt sophomore Javien DeLeon (Allentown, Pa./Liberty) (16-1) and second-ranked 184-pound grappler Matthew Weinberg (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (18-2).
The main event came in the 174-pound fight, as Kutztown's Dalton Gimbor (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) had his first ranked test in the Griffins' Kane Kettering, ranked eighth in the nation. Gimbor, ranked seventh in the 165-pound class prior to the season, held a 4-4 tie in the middle of the second period before Kettering surged ahead with a 6-1 finish for a 10-5 decision and three team points on the night.
The Golden Bears will return to action next weekend at the 45th Midwest Classic, hosted by the University of Indianapolis on December 14th and 15th, with 10 a.m. start times on both days. KU will open their home slate at Keystone Arena with a non-conference dual against Felician on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.
