KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Following another successful fall athletics season, Kutztown is ranked in the top 10 Division II Learfield Directors' Cup standings, announced Monday.
The Golden Bears appear 10th in the standings, the highest program in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Kutztown totaled 193.00 total points, the result of qualification and successful performances at the national level from its field hockey, football, and women's soccer programs.
KU Field Hockey earned a department-best 90 points, finishing runner-up at the NCAA DII national championships. Golden Bear football received 53 points, winning another PSAC championship. Kutztown women's soccer recorded 50 points, playing in the PSAC final and winning a game in the NCAA Tournament.
The highest year-end finish Kutztown has ever had was 16th overall in 2009-10. Final results will be announced June 11 following the spring championship season.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. Overall, 15 sports are counted in the final Division II standings, four of which must be women's volleyball, basketball, men's basketball, and baseball. The next highest sports (11 maximum) scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings. The NACDA releases Learfield Directors' Cup standings each academic year after the fall, winter, and spring seasons. The leader after the spring season is declared the Directors' Cup champion.
