Women's golf has opening round of Alvernia Invitational at Bulle Rock affected by darkness

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. -- Rhi Stutz (Prescott, Wisc./Prescott) shot an 89 and Gabby Cohen (Jeffersonville, N.Y./Sullivan West) 91 but they were the only two Kutztown University golfers to complete their opening rounds, Tuesday, as the Alvernia Invitational at Bulle Rock got underway in Havre de Grace, Md.

Despite being more than 60 miles and 90 minutes from campus, Berks County-based Alvernia is hosting an eight-team women's tournament and 11-team men's tournament at Bulle Rock Golf Course.

The two tournaments proved to be a bit much for the amount of daylight this time of year. Eight women did not get to complete their rounds due to darkness, including Kutztown's Grace Klements (Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Pinelands Regional) and Alexis Peet (Greentown, Pa./Wallenpaupack).

Stutz was tied for 21st in the individual standings with her 17-over par 89 and Cohen was tied for 29th with a 19-over 91. Peet was 16-over through 16 holes, which was tied for 19th when play was halted. Klements was tied for 29th with teammate Cohen and also had two holes to play.

The two groups that didn't finish on Tuesday will have to complete their final holes Wednesday morning before second round play begins.
