No. 7 Women’s Soccer extends shutout streak to five games in 2-0 win over Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The Kutztown University women's soccer team (10-0-3, 9-0-2 PSAC East) extended its shutout streak to five games (521:22 minutes) as the Golden Bears defeated Shippensburg (1-11-0, 1-9-0 PSAC East) 2-0 at David See Field Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bear's stifling defense, led by goalkeeper Cassandra Baker (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and center back Bridget Curtis (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South), was helped by the offensive work of Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East), Lexy Endres (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), and Katelyn Economopoulos (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin). McDonald netted her fourth goal of the season and KU's first goal of the game in the 43rd minute off an assist from Economopoulos. McDonald then assisted on Endres' team-leading seventh goal of the season to make it 2-0 Golden Bears in the 51st minute. McDonald leads the PSAC with nine assists on the season, which is also the third-best mark in the country.

The Golden Bears outshot the Raiders 14-3, with a 4-2 shots on goal advantage. The defense of Curtis, Skyler Jordan (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth), Maura Day (Huntington Valley, Pa./Abington), and Dana Wentz (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) was spectacular yet again for KU. Baker, who now has eight shutouts this season, made two saves for the Golden Bears. Kendra Barlow made two saves for Shippensburg.

KU is unbeaten in the last 12 games against the Raiders dating back to 2015. The Golden Bears have now also won 10 games in a season for the 21st straight season. KU sits firmly at the top of the PSAC East with 29 points on the season and has opened at a five-point gap on second place East Stroudsburg, who drew Shepherd 1-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bears host West Chester in a massive game at Keystone Field on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. KU defeated then-No. 12 West Chester 3-0 earlier in the season. The Golden Rams sit third in the PSAC East with 24 points, the same as ESU.
