MANSFIELD, Pa. – Freshmen
Jordan Stroup (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) and
Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) both scored goals in the middle two quarters and the Kutztown field hockey defense earned its 10th shutout in as many wins as KU defeated Mansfield 2-0 Saturday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup on the road.
Â
The Golden Bears (10-2 overall, 4-2 PSAC) won its 10th game of the regular season and bounced back from losing 3-2 against Shippensburg in their last game this past Tuesday night.
Â
It was the third goal on the year for both freshmen players. Stroup found the back of the cage 10:14 into the second quarter and then Traynor netted her shot off a pass from
Jillian Buchman (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) in the 43rd minute to give KU all the scoring it needed in this one.
Â
The Maroon and Gold defenders, featuring
Alyssa Eager (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley),
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and
Danielle Panati (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) were stout all game, not allowing a shot on
Mia Kepler's (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) cage. KU outshot the Mounties (8-5, 2-3) 10-4 overall and 8-0 on goal. The two teams were tied 4-4 in penalty corners.
Â
Kutztown will face its third consecutive ranked opponent when it welcomes West Chester to Andre Reed Stadium for a PSAC game next Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.
